1000 Books

While cruising our local library, I discovered a program offered for children of pre-school age. "1000 Books before Kindergarten" is a program for children ages 0-5 years whose goal is to aid children in literacy, vocabulary, and to develop a love for reading. What a great program for our children in such an over-stimulated, technology-driven society. Michael and I have had such fun reading to Bailey the past 9 months. We are thoroughly enjoying our trips to the library to select books for the coming week. Our wish list of books to add to Bailey's permanent library has also begun to increase.

I would love some recommendations. What were your favorite childhood must-reads?

  5. A friend recently said that one thing she prayed for her children was to have a love of reading. She knows that if they love to read, it will be so much easier to make reading scripture a daily habit. I have to say that I've never thought of this. It makes a lot of sense.

  6. Leslie, that is something I would have never thought of either. Such a great suggestion, and so true. I know so many people, adults and kids alike, who dislike to read. So the Bible is something they never pick up. Than you for the suggestion.
